RBC Bearings Inc., a large publicly traded manufacturer of precision bearings and components, has selected Houston for its launching pad into the wind energy business.
RBC is developing a $17 million plant near Hobby Airport where it will manufacture slewing ring bearings that are used in wind turbines, as well as other machinery.
Oxford, Conn.-based RBC is ramping up in response to a huge worldwide demand for slewing ring bearings needed in the emerging wind energy field, says Rick Edwards, vice president and general manager of one of RBC?¡¥s divisions.
?¡ãThe new demand for the industry would be measured in billions of dollars per year,?¡À says Edwards, who offices in Hartsville, S.C.
